PASSION & HONEY

Written and Directed by Calvin Manson

Friday, March 13 through March 29, 2015 - IRA ALDRIDGE REPERTORY PLAYERS, in collaboration with SAN DIEGO CONTINUING EDUCATION, EDUCATIONAL CULTURAL COMPLEX, will open its 31st Theatre Season on a personal, emotional and gut-wrenching note with Passion & Honey, a choreo-poem that chronicles the passage of childhood friends through their adolescence to adulthood.   This production will run for a limited engagement of 9 performances from March 13 through March 29.  Opening night is Friday, March 13 at the Educational Culture Complex Performing Arts Theatre, 4343 Ocean View Blvd., San Diego, CA 92113.

Passion & Honey is a stroll down memory lane; where kids are playing double-dutch jump rope in the streets, and experiencing their first love and first heartbreak.  Manson brings his unique brand of playful, and imaginative performance work to his revised production.

“Passion & Honey offers itself as a play about the black experience. More importantly, Passion & Honey is about the human experience, ” said Brian Stuart, (free-lance writer) for the SAN DIEGO UNION.  Passion & Honey features Miesha Fuller, Candace Lawson, Leon Matthews Kalif W. Price and Ronnie Williams as they share their experiences of love sought, gained, lost and lament about Martin Luther King Jr.’s death, a beloved relative, and inter-racial relationships.

Playwright and director Calvin Manson, born and raised in San Diego, may be best known for work in San Diego theatre community.  Manson continues to receive accolades for the productions he helms.

Most recently, he received the NAACP San Diego Branch Lorraine V. Hansberry Preforming Arts Award, for excellence in producing classics and new works of art for the African American community.
